Bridging the Gap: Awdal Websites!
The Internet or the World Wide Web is indeed a wonderful, and amazing addition to our lives. Man has come a long way, and because of his continuous quest for more and more amenities, and facilities we now have the Internet. The nineties have seen a major turn around with the invention of computers. Amazingly, 10 years ago the term internet was practically anonymous to most of the people. And today the internet has become the most ever powerful tool for man throughout the world.
To millions of people including me, it is a crucial part of daily life. Not a single day passes by that I don’t check my emails, surf the news, socialize with friends/ family, study, and do my work – all through the internet. Of course people have different reasons in using the internet, but they have one thing in common – they cannot live without it. It is like blood to their veins, or to some arguably like the food they eat.
Remarkably, it is no wonder that a handful of wise Awdalites saw the advantage, and utilized it for the good of their people. Incase you are wondering; I’m referring to the Awdalite website administrators. It started with perhaps a website or two, and miraculously the number of websites continued to grow by the year, month, and day to the extent one can hardly count them all. On a daily bases, each one of these websites are filled with news (local and international), analysis, personal views, updates of developmental projects carried out in the region, and of course that popular pickering going back and forth of the Somaliland politicians. To the thousands of Adal decedents that are scattered through out the world, these are extremely useful/important information with out which many would simply lose touch base with the place they proudly call home. Understandably, these websites has over the years with a good reason become a daily live routine to the thousands of keen followers.
To this effect, let me say my part in showing appreciation to the men/women, and praise the magnificent job they all are doing. You website administrators, reporters, editors, and overall contributors should know that you are making difference in so many lives on a daily bases. We mostly take it for granted, but you are working round the clock with no or little facilities; and yet making sure that every Awdalite is exercising his right to be informed. So on behalf of the thousands of readers , let me say WE THANK YOU.
That being said, it is also a high for you to realize the impact a little blunder on your part can have on large masses of your people. In the past few weeks, I have been seeing a lot of politically motivated slurs, insults, and unnecessary personal attacks amongst few individuals in a different websites whom I don’t want to mention by name. I can understand the fact that people have poles apart opposing views about certain issues, and/or affiliations with the various contending parties in Somaliland politics. What is hard to comprehend however is, how can otherwise responsible, wise, and a crucial figures who also took such an immensely important role for their community would also take the lead to degrade, defame and divide their own people? Very shameful to say the least!!
Let me wind by saying , I urge you NOT to defy the high esteem you have within the society, for the cheap Somaliland politics that will soon fade away!!
