“Sunday, August, 7, 2010 marked a new page of hope, optimism and development in Somaliland.”

Iskuul Sare EE Geb Wuxu Ka Dhiganyahay Waa Cusub OO Ubaryay Dad Bari Hore La Iska Ilaaway. Iskuulkani Wuxu La Kawsaday  Dawlada Cusub EE Soomaaliland. Waxa Timid Dabayshii Isbadalka, Rajada Iyo Horuumarka. Cadceed Cusub Ayaa U Soo Baxday Dadka Deeganka Gabta Iyo Reer Soomaliland OO Dhan

The opening of Geb Boarding high school just two weeks after the ouster of Rayaale from power seems like a mystery. Dignitaries descended on the Gab high school grounds. This school that was started by few minds who were living in far off lands some years ago. The idea was to bring education to neglected, under served and disadvantaged people and their children. Finally that day came true on Sunday, August 7, 2010. Thanks to community members all over the world, in Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, Britain, the Scandinavia, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Djibouti, Borama, Zeila, Hargeisa, Gabiley, Minneapolis, Charlotte, Middle East and many other places who contributed so much to make this dream of the Gab high school become a reality. Sunday, August 7, 2010 was a special day for the people of Awdal/Salel/Gabiley and all Somaliland. It was a day the seeds sown by few dedicated community members have bore fruits. It was a day the impossible was changed to the possible, darkness was given way to light, dry barren land has changed into a green meadow. It was a day long held dream came true, It was a day that proved to everybody  that few hands and minds coming together for a common cause can change the world. It was a day of excitement, happiness and community solidarity.

There was a tremendous excitement in the air. The best sight was the children in uniform standing in front of the school, and holding a huge sign which was advertising the Geb Boarding High School grand opening. One can see the superfluous excitement and thirsty for learning which was written all over those childrens’ faces. The opening Ceremony of Gab Boarding School Was an uplifting and Inspiring Experience

The opening of this community school is the product of a long struggle for organizing, fund raising and warding off Rayaale rejection of any development in Awdal/Salel. We all know Rayaale attempted to block the opening of EELO American University, but huge community outcry  and the irrationality of his road blocks forced him to relent. Another very important feature of the opening of the Geb Boarding High School was the full presence of the new Kulmiye government officials. This looks like the beginning of a new era, an era of a visible and transparent government. Today we witnessed community work in action, we observed the product of community working together for a common ground in action. We watched the fruits of, united we stand project in action “Gacmu Wadajir  Bay Waxku Qabtaan.” Today we witnessed the completion of Geb High School, tomorrow don’t be surprised If this community keeps working together we will see Geb college or university in the foreseeable future. For all those who contributed to this school keep the good work and remember the opening of the school did not mark the end of the good work you did. On the contrary opening the school is the beginning of the noble and selfless job you did. In the journey to the promised organizers and activists went through a lot but you they finally pulled off a real community victory. The rewards of your long journey of hard work and sacrifice was reaped on Sunday, August 7, 2010.
